| Bookmark Manager | REQUIREMENTS: Import and export from most browsers and browser shells; export to HTML page; check for duplicates; test links; store and manage thousands of bookmarks while remaining stable. WHY NEEDED: No Existing Freeware (Little Girl) |
| Information Manager | REQUIREMENTS: Keep track of already downloaded files; keep track of already printed Web pages / documents (Andreas Kaestner) |
| Router Logger | REQUIREMENTS: Log into the statistics html page of a Netgear DG834 ADSL router, every minute, and extract the date and time, together with the Noise Margin figure. Write these to a text file as a log. WHY NEEDED: Many people have very variable Signal-to-Noise ratios, which often leads to dropping of their ADSL connection. A tiny program or script would enable them to collect evidence and then they might be able to diagnose the problem - because it can be something as peculiar as the street lamps turning on in the road outside the house! The Netgear DG834 is one of the most used routers - and anyway the script could perhaps be made easy to modify for other routers. (Chris) |
| MULTIMEDIA | |
| Midi Editor with good staff note entry | REQUIREMENTS: To open midi multitrack files, and show editable musical staves, probably eight at least; to play the files through the computer so that effects of edits can be heard WHY NEEDED: I do not believe there is any freeware that can do the above, though I have come across single track programs. You need two staves even for piano, four for choral, and six for choral plus basic accompaniment. Noteworthy composer has good note entering, but saves in it's own file format and does not preserve a lot of midi information, ie pan. My 1995 Cakewalk Express is good on most fronts, but deficient on staff entry - I don't know what the modern version does as there isn't even a demo version. (mike ring) |
| Music OCR | REQUIREMENTS: Able to scan a sheet of music and turn it into an editable/printable document. Must be able to do more than just simple music. WHY NEEDED: No Existing Freeware (mike ring) |

| GUI spell checker | for all files in a directory without needing to open them one by one manually. In other words automate the spell checking of every file BUT automatically open/close all files that don't have spelling errors. Leaving behind only files with spelling errors in. Then being able to correct, close, move to the next file to correct easily. WHY NEEDED: No existing Freeware (John Fitzsimons) |
| Text editor for creative writing | REQUIREMENTS: Fast, hotkey based, spell check, bookmarks and statistics (word count, word length, sentence count etc.), ability to open many large files at once in tabbed windows, special red and blue notes (any location in the text) (saved after the body text) (displayed or hidden via a hotkey). WHY NEEDED: No Existing Freeware (Morgan Ohlson) |
