REMARKS: Bjorn S.: I manage a few public computers. They all have various card readers to which Windows by default assigners drive letters. Utterly confusing for users who want to insert a USB stick. Which of the many drive letters present here is mine? - they ask. Problem solved with USBDLM, preventing drive letter assignment for empty card readers. I can also use it to make a list of drive letters (or just one) to be used for any USB device inserted. This way I can answer the "Which drive letter is mine" question from users without even looking. (But since I removed the "empty card" drive letters, few if any needs to ask). Configuration is stored in a ini file, which can be copied from one machine to the next. Nice and simple. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks that support this feature and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported. SpeedFan supports SCSI disks too. SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware. At the lowest level, SpeedFan is a hardware monitor software that can access digital temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can change fan speeds (depending on the capabilities of your sensor chip and your hardware) according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise.
