Description: Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program." Ever had such an annoying message given by Windows? Unlocker is the solution! Simply right click the file or folder and select Unlocker. If the file or folder is locked then a window will appear with a list of processes locking the file or folder. Select the locks and click Unlock and you are done. It is recommended to Unlock wisely and to close open processes locking files or folder if any, but if only Explorer.exe is the culprit, do not hesitate!

Description: FileNote is a little shell extension that allows you to add textual descriptions to your files. It adds one command to the shell context menu of a file object. This command lets you easily edit or create a text file that has the same name as the initial file, but with the extension TXT. For example, if you have a file, MyImage.jpg, you right-click on that file and choose the FileNote command from the context menu. A new text file called MyImage.txt is created and Notepad is opened to edit that text file. If a text file with that name already exists, it will be opened for viewing/editing.)

Description: Dependency Walker scans any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module (exe, dll, ocx, sys, etc.) and builds a hierarchical tree diagram of all dependent modules. For each module found, it lists all the functions that are exported by that module, and which of those functions are actually being called by other modules. Another view displays the minimum set of required files, along with detailed information about each file including a full path to the file, base address, version numbers, machine type, debug information, and more. Dependency Walker is also very useful for troubleshooting system errors related to loading and executing modules. Dependency Walker detects many common application problems such as missing modules, invalid modules, import/export mismatches, circular dependency errors, mismatched machine types of modules, and module initialization failures. Dependency Walker runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, 2003, and Vista. It can process any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module, including ones designed for Windows CE. It can be run as graphical application or as a console application. Dependency Walker handles all types of module dependencies, including implicit, explicit (dynamic / runtime), forwarded, delay-loaded, and injected. A detailed help is included.

Description: External version of Total Commander's built-in viewer. Lister is a standalone viewer for text (ASCII, ANSI, Unicode, UTF-8, RTF), html files (formatted text and links), bitmaps and certain multimedia files. Any file can be browsed with a fixed length binary and a hex view. Lister can display pictures and other multimedia files using Irfanview or XNView as a filter. Lister Plugins written for Total Commander are supported, too. These plugins are available for a broad variety of file formats (executables, databases, CAD, GIS, office documents, archive files, fonts, Palm files, torrents, playlists,...), making Lister an excellent multi-format viewer. Some plugins also add edit facilities. Documents can be searched for text and hexadecimal strings. Text can be selected, copied to clipboard and printed. Customization is possible via command line and (if necessary various) *.ini file(s). COMMENTS by BeAr: Lister is very fast and handles files of nearly unlimited size without problems. Plugins should be tested after installation. Some are not stable, yet, and may crash Lister.

Description: InfoRapid Search & Replace is one of the most powerful text retrieval programs currently available for Microsoft Windows. With its built-in converters, it's excellently suitable for searching and previewing HTML and RTF documents. In pure text files, the found text passages can be replaced after the search is over. The search and replace process can be automated with the help of batch files to replace several phrases in one step. The found documents can be opened in a preview window, in which the matches are highlighted. A special feature is that InfoRapid can use Microsoft Office converters to search WinWord, Excel, Lotus and other documents and preview them in their original layout. The advantages of InfoRapid Search & Replace lie in the diverse search options and in the simple operation and handiness. A click on a hypertext link in the search result list opens the corresponding file in the text viewer and jumps directly to the marked passage. Another click, this time with the right mouse button, brings you back to the search result list. You can browse through the search result list with the function keys F5 and F6, without shifting between the file viewer and the search result list every time. If you discover a word you want to look further on, a double click on it is sufficient to take it as new search expression and start a new search. Up to 999 search result pages and search parameters can be stored in a database, from where they can be recalled via a register. Description: Eraser is an advanced security tool, which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. You can drag and drop files and folders to the on-demand eraser, use the convenient Explorer shell extension or use the integrated scheduler to program overwriting of unused disk space or, for example, browser cache files to happen regularly, at night, during your lunch break, at weekends or whenever you like. The patterns used for overwriting are based on Peter Gutmann's paper "Secure Deletion of Data from Magnetic and Solid-State Memory" and they are selected to effectively remove the magnetic remnants from the hard disk. Other methods include the one defined in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual of the US Department of Defense and overwriting with pseudo-random data. You can also define your own overwriting methods. NOTES: If you have an older version of Eraser installed on your system, make sure you uninstall it before installing the latest version. COMMENTS: Problems were reported with versions 5.8 and 5.81 Those versions have been removed from the Eraser site. If you are using one of those versions you should probably replace it with the latest version or an older version (available on the download page).

Description: Restore files which are deleted from the recycle bin or deleted while holding down the Shift key by mistake. Conversely, this program has another function that makes it almost impossible to restore all deleted files. You can use it after deletion of confidential documents, embarrassing files and so on.You don't have to install it, so it doesn't leave any garbage in the PC. (You can also run it from a floppy disk.) Even if a file seems to be restored, there is no guarantee that the contents are correct. After you run the program, please check the files. You can probably restore it correctly if the drive has enough free space and if it's just after deletion. If you restore a folder, there is no guarantee that all files or folders which used to belong to the folder will be in it. If you can't find them in it, please search and restore them one by one. If you still can't find them, it's impossible to restore them. It will be almost impossible to restore any deleted files if you run the complete deletion function. To be exact, fragments of deleted files can be in last clusters of existing files or allocated and unwritten files. (Note that this function is not suitable for TOP SECRET information.) Even if you find the information of completely deleted files, their contents must be erased. If you want to erase the information too, please run the function again. COMMENTS: Please note that the most recent version of Restoration is v 2.5.14. Brothersoft lists "Restoration 3.2.13 by usb-mania.com". That's a rebranded copy of Brian Kato's program. Softpedia erroneously lists "Restoration 3.2.13 by Brian Kato".

Description: CDCheck is utility for prevention, detection and recovery of damaged files with emphasis on error detection. It can check each of your CDs and DVDs and indicate which files are corrupted. CDCheck reporting features tell you exactly where the problems are. CDs can get damaged in a number of ways, so the program helps you determine whether your data is safe before it's too late. The program also provides a comparison option that lets you select a reference directory on your hard drive (or some other device). CDCheck ensures that the contents on a disc match those in the directory, and effectively alerts you of differences. Besides that CDCheck supports creation of CRC files which provide extra safety that files on your CDs are still exactly the same as they were. In addition to CD-ROMs, the program can be used with all other local or removable media (disk drives, floppy disks, ZIP drives...) visible by the operating system (Windows Explorer).
