download via Bit Torrent
The ISO file (637 MB) may be downloaded via bit torrent. The procedure is simple. Partial downloads can be stopped and resumed. We are using a trackerless (DHT) torrent to distribute the file. This type of torrent file is not recognized by all bit torrent clients. The procedure for downloading the PL2006 ISO file using µTorrent (recommended):
1. download µTorrent http://www.utorrent.com
2. No installation is required. Put the file where you want it and start it running.
3. In the file menu select "add torrent from URL"
4. paste this URL into the URL box: http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/PL2006_CDISO.iso.torrent
5. It may be several minute before uTorrent finds the download - be patient.

Note: Bit torrents work by person to person file sharing. Please leave uTorrent running for a while after your download is complete so others can download the file from you.

An alternate way to access Usenet is to sign up for a web based Usenet account with Google. See their Posting FAQ for further information: http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/posting_faq.html

verifying the CD
Follow the procedures below to ensure that you have an exact copy of the original Pricelessware CD.

A small program named DVDSig is included in the root directory of the CD. DVDSig creates a digital fingerprint file named dvdsig.md5 that is used to verify a CD. The author of DVDSig is Dariusz Stanislawek: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware/

Doubleclick on dvdsig.exe and choose verify. This check tells you whether your CD is a true and complete copy of the files that were scanned to create the dvdsig.md5 file.

This is the message you should see when the verification is complete:

Total:314 OK:314 Bad:0 Missing:0
The operation completed successfully. 314 files, 636MB, *s
* = the number of seconds it took to run the check

Note: See known errors if you use Windows 98

To further ensure that your CD is an exact copy of the original CD verify that your dvdsig.md5 file matches the original dvdsig.md5 file:

Create a temporary directory on your hard drive.
Create a subdirectory. (the directory names do not matter)

Copy dvdsig.exe from the CD to the directory.
Copy dvdsig.md5 from the CD to the subdirectory.

Doubleclick on dvdsig.exe, click scan.
This will create a dvdsig.md5 file in the directory.

The Pricelessware dvdsig.md5 file is here: http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2006/dvdsig.md5 Right-click on the link and save the file on your hard drive.

In the subdirectory replace the dvdsig.md5 file from the CD with the copy of dvdsig.md5 downloaded from the Pricelessware site.

Doubleclick on dvdsig.exe, click verify.

If your CD is a true copy of the original CD this is the message you will see when the verification is complete:

Total: 2 OK: 2 Bad: 0 Missing: 0
The operation completed successfully: 2 files, OMB, *s
* = the number of seconds it took to run the check

Cumulative Pricelessware List

The table that should have been included on the Cumulative Pricelessware List web page was inadvertently omitted. Save the online Cumative Pricelessware List web page to your hard drive if you wish to replace that page with a page that has the tables. The saved page is plain HTML (the table cannot be sorted). Links to the page that are shown on other web pages will be valid if you use the .php file extension (file name = CumulativePL.php).

Internet Explorer - Windows XP Service Pack 2 bugs

Local web pages with a .php file extension may not open. This problem is caused by a "security fix" in Windows XP Service Pack 2. Go to the Internet Explorer Tools menu - "Internet Options" - "Advanced". Scroll wayyyyyyy down to "Security" put a check mark in the box that says "Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer". The .php web pages should now open. (Note: these pages are plain HTML; there is NO active content, )

Local links that include a # sign may not work properly. If you try to use them to move quickly down a web page or open a new page in the same window you may see an error message or a blank page. Such links can (probably) be opened in a new IE window.

The easiest way to avoid these Internet Explorer problems is to use another browser (ANY other browser). If you must use IE a patch is available for the Pricelessware CD. The patch includes revised web pages that use .htm file extentions for all local links. In addition the error on the Cumulative Pricelessware List web page has been corrected. To apply the patch download this file: 2006-CD-IE_pages.zip (182 KB). Unzip the file. Copy the PL2006 CD to your hard drive. Replace the "index.html" file (it's in the "root" directory); add the other files to their matching 2006 or acf directories. Files with a .php file extension may be kept or deleted. Burn a new CD (if desired).
